Did you know?
Partille Cup is the biggest handball tournament in the world. Sometimes the numbers are amazing. Here you can find some of them.
- In 1970, the total budget for the opening ceremony at Vallhamra Sports Centre was 550 SEK. Today, the sum is considerably higher, and our opening ceremony takes place in a crowded Scandinavium Arena.
- In 2008, over 3,500 matches were played and almost 80,000 goals were scored.
- If the tournament only had one court, it would take more than two months, playing 24 hours a day.
- An arrangement like Partille Cup needs many helpers, and during the week of the tournament the organisation consists of 1,000 functionaries.
- To conduct the tournament, 200 referees, 70 percent of whom are from outside of Sweden, are needed.
- The participants live spread out over some 30 schools in Göteborg and at several hotels. Partille Cup rent out 2,000 beds; the rest sleep on their own mattresses.
- During the tournament, the medical service, treats between 700 and 1,000 players and leaders.
- Partille Cup’s own disco for participants, the ”Players Club”, is one of the Nordic countries’ biggest and is visited by 8,000 young people.
- It takes half a year to plan the opening ceremony, and over 200 dancers, 20 singers and 10 choreographers are coordinated in order to give 13,000 spectators (full house) a show they will never forget.
- During Partille Cup, 140,000 portions of food are served. This means, for example, 1,800 kilograms of meat sauce and 1,500 kilograms of pasta when spaghetti and meat sauce is served.
- In ”times of need”, no efforts must be spared – during the week of Partille Cup 17,000 metres of toilet paper are used.
- Those who stay at schools are good housekeepers. 13,000 garbage bags are used for cleaning up.
