Partille Cup is the biggest handball tournament in the world. Sometimes the numbers are amazing. Here you can find some of them.
- In 1970, the total budget for the Opening Ceremony at Vallhamra Sports Centre was 550 SEK. Today, the costs today is considerably higher, and our Opening Ceremony takes place in a crowded Scandinavium Arena.
- In 2011, more than 4 024 matches were played and 89 240 goals were scored.
- If the tournament had been played at only one court, it would take more than two months, playing 24 hours a day to finish.
- An arrangement like Partille Cup needs many volonteers, and during the week of the tournament the organisation consists of more than 1 000 functionaries.
- To conduct the tournament, 220 referees, 70 percent of whom are from outside of Sweden, are needed.
- The participants live spread in about 30 schools in the Gothenburg area and at several hotels. Partille Cup rent 2 500 beds; the rest sleep on their own mattresses.
- During the tournament, the medical service, treats between 700 and 1 000 players and leaders.
- Partille Cup’s own disco for participants, the Players Club, is one of the Nordic countries’ biggest discoeques and is visited by 3 000 young people every night.
- It takes half a year to plan the Opening Ceremony, and more than 200 dancers, 20 singers and 10 choreographers are coordinated in order to give 13 000 spectators (full house) a show they will never forget.
- During Partille Cup, 165 000 portions of food are served. This means, for example, 2 ton of meat sauce and 5 kilometres of pasta when spaghetti and meat sauce is served.
- In ”times of need”, no efforts must be spared – during the week of Partille Cup 190 000 metres of toilet paper are used.
- Those who stay at schools are good housekeepers. 13 500 garbage bags are used for cleaning up.
