Partille Cup 2010 is over. 18 teams has received Partille Cup’s trophy – The Golden Hand.

The 18 winners represent 13 clubs from six different nations. It was many Scandinavian victories with 10 Swedish, 2 Norwegian and 2 Danish champion teams, and also for the first time in Partille Cup a champion team from the Faroe Islands. Egypt got two victories and Germany won one final.

India, Nigeria and France also had teams in the finals. The French club Selestat Alsace had two teams in the finals but both of them lost their games.

It was 27 clubs in total among the 36 finalist teams.

Four clubs won more than one victory in this year’s Partille Cup finals.

The most successful club was the Swedish club Lugi HF, which won three finals. IK Sävehof and Kärra HF, also from Sweden, won two victories each. The Danish club Skanderborg HB could also go home with two victories.

3,681 games has been played during the week, and not less than 85 257 goal have been scored during the tournament. Will the tournament grow so much bigger during the next couple years that we might be able to score over 100,000?

Boys 14 India National Team, India – Alexandria SC 1, Egypt 8-10 (3-4)

A team from India and a team Egypt were meeting each other in the last final of Partille Cup 2010 in Valhalla. Both the teams had made an average of 20 goals in their games in both their groups and the play offs. It was therefore a surprise that the score in half time only was 4-3 to Alexandria from Egypt. Alexandria was the better team in the beginning of the first part of the game, India National Team didn’t really start to fight until they were down by 4-1.

We don’t know if the teams were tired, if it was the indoor court, or if the teams just were playing too good of a defense, but the second half of the game didn’t contain many goals either. Alexandria had made one more goal five minutes in to the second half of the game, and expended their lead to 5-3. In the middle of the second half the teams begun to score, and India scored 6-6 with six minutes left of the game. 6-6 became 7-7 and then 8-8 as India made a score after Alexandria had made one. But with a couple of minutes left of the game did Alexandria two straight goals and where able to win the game with 10-8.

Girls 14 Neistin, Faroe Islands –Hjortshöj Egå IF, Denmark 11-10 (5-5)

The final in Girls 14 was a rough and close fight between Neistin from the Faroe Islands and Hjortshöj Egå from Denmark. It was also a fight between the mother nation Denmark and the team from the self-governed Faroe Island, which still belongs to Denmark. It was tough and even all throughout the first half of the game where Neistin scored the first goal, and then Hjortshöj Egå took the lead with 2-1, and then Neistin with 3-2, and then Hjortshöj Egå with 4-3 and then Neistin with 5-4. Hjortshöj Egå scored a penalty-shoot right before half-time and evened out the scores to 5-5.

Good defense and good goalkeepers held down the number of goals in the game, where Neistin scored and Hjortshöj scored right back, until 10 minutes into the second half of the game when Neistin had a led with two goals for the first time in the game when Hjortshöj Egå got a 2-minutes- suspension. Hjortshöj Egå scored on a penalty-shoot with only one and an half minutes left in the game and evened out the result to 10-10. Neistin got a 2-minutes-suspension, but got themselves a penalty-shoot with only 12 seconds left of the game. They scored on the penalty-shoot and Neistin won with 11-10. This has probably been the most even game in Partille Cup 2010.

Partille Cup’s website made an article about Neistin’s Girls 14 earlier this week. They talked about their hopes to go to this year’s Partille Cup final then.  They did even better than that, they won. It was the first victory ever for the Faroe Islands in Partille Cup, which now have winner from 23 different nations.

Boys 13 Norrköpings HK, Sweden – Baekkelaget SK, Norway 13-14 (5-7)

We have a new meeting between Sweden and Norway when Norrköping meets Baekkelaget in the Boys 13 final. Baekkelaget from Norway stated off the game the best and was in a lead with 4-1 after barely 5 minutes game.  Norrköping worked hard to get in the game, but Baekkelaget scored directly after Norrköping every time they scored.  It was a speedy first half of the game were both the goalkeeper, the posts and the bar had to work hard. Baekkelaget had the lead in half-time with 7-5.

Baekkelaget made two goals early in the second half of the game, this gave them a lead with four goals. The boys in Baekkelaget held that lead until it was six minutes left of the game, when Norrköping started to score and reduced Baekkelaget’s lead to only 12-11 with four minutes left of the game.  With 30 seconds left of the game Norrköping scores 13-13 on a penalty-shoot. Baekkelaget scored with only eight seconds left of the game and won a well-deserved victory.

Girls 13 Torslanda HK,Sweden  – Fjellhammer IL 2, Norway 19- 5 (9-2)

Fjellhammer who are dressed in green, always bring many teams to Partille Cup, and this year they have managed to get all the way to the Girls 13 final. Torslanda from Sweden started off the game best and Fjellhammer had noticeable problems with Torlanda’s offensive defense. But after a goal on a penalty-shoot was Fjellhammer able to do an early goal during the first half of the game, and then it only became one more before half-time.  Torslanda scored more easily and had a lead with 9-2 when it was time for half-time.

Fjellhammer continued to fight, but Torslanda was clearly the better team in this final. With a number of counters and a strengthen self-esteem could Torslanda make their lead even bigger and win the game with pretty big numbers in the end, 19-5.

Boys 12
Selstate Alsace HB, Frankrike–Police SF, Egypten
12–17 (5–6)

It was the fourth year in a row that this team from Egyptian Police SF won Partille Cup. This time they beat Selestate Alsace. These teams met in the group and then the French won 10-9.
– We made a much better game this time, of course, said the captain Mohamed Amr.

The keeper Mahmoud Mohamed was brilliant in goal and save both a penalty and several times one-on-one and that was crucial for the victory. Sayed Tarek, Mohamed Amr and Yossef Mohamed all did important goals in the second half when Police was the, without doubt, strongest team.

Last week the team won a tournament in Germany. Partille Cup makes it two in a row and a very successful trip to Europe…

Girls 12
FFI Håndbold, DEN–IK Sävehof 1, SWE
8–11 (3–5)

For Sävehof this was revenge after losing last year’s final. The game was decided in the beginning of the second half when Sävehof went from 5-3 to 8-3 after three goals by Ebba Lundstedt. She made a fourth later on and was one of the best players of the match.

The other goals was made by Emmy Johansson. Among them the goal that settled the score in the last minute.

– It was niceto win, especially since we lost the final last year, said Ebba Lundstedt.

The Sävehof coach was a man who also won the Swedish Elite Men’s gold earlier this year with Sävehof.

Boys 11
Önnereds HK, SWE-Lugi HF 1, SWE
11-14 (4-5)

When Anton Karlsson made it 6-4 to Lugi early in the second half, it was the first time in the match that either of the teams had a two goal advantage. And with that advantage the team from Lund never lost control of the game.

Önnered made some good efforts to close the gap in the end, but Lugi’s lead was to big. Also Önnered got double 2 min. suspenstions during the second haft, and that didn’t make things easier.

– This is a great feeling. When it was one minute to play I was sure we would win, tells Anton Karlsson.

He made five of the goals in the final, which was Lugis toughest game during Partille Cup.

Girls 11
Sarpsborg IL, NOR-Fredriksbergs IF, DEN
12-11 (6-4)

This was handball at it’s best. Sarpsborg was in the lead with three goals in the second half, when Fredriksberg got one of their players injured. But then tension rose an the Danes got closer.

With four minutes to play the socre was 11-11 and the final minutes was very, very exciting. Sarpsborg made their winning goal with two minutes to play, and after that Fredriksberg had four chances of scoring, an opportunity from the line in the final second included.

Fredriksberg played offensively during the game and used their keeper Jaquline Tandrup take part in the attacks. But Sarpsborg held out and could celebrate after receiving the Golden Hand from the Swedish champion Ida Odén.

Boys 10
Selestat Alsace HB-Kävlinge HK 2
4-14 (2-5)

In the beginning this looked like a tight game with few gaols.After eleven minutes the score was only 2-2. But then Kävlinge figured out the French offensive defence and took the command.
Thanks to good combinations, specially between Hugo Larsson and Cesar Cammarotto, Kävlinge could break free and make a couple of goals in the end of the half.

After the break Selestat Alsace contiued their offensive defence, they made it 3-5 and had their chances to make their fourth goal. But then Kävlinge make 3-6 and the match went their way. Kävlinge won a well deserved victory.

The Kävlingeplayer Torbjörn Andersson was standing beside the court. he couldn’t play at all since he broke his arm in the semifinal against Stenungsund. But he was very happy after the victory.
– The team is good, we are all good, he said.
Torbjörn broke his arm when he was hit by a ball.
– It was the second time it happened. Last time was just a month ago. Now I have to get the arm into plaster for a couple of weeks, he said.

Girls 10
Sävehof IK 3-Kärra HF 1
4-10 (2-6)

In a good game, Kärra won, much thanks to great goalkeeper Johanna Sköldborg. After the game she got the Golden Hand statuette but was quick to praise the other players.
– We have a good defence, she says.

Johanna Sköldberg isn’t just a good shotstopper, she also showed great game intelligence when she started several fast breaks with precise passes.

Best goalscorer in the final was Malin Sandberg from Kärra. She made six of their goals.

Boys 16 TSV Burgdorf, Tyskland–IFK Tumba, Sverige 15– 14 (7–7)

It was a really dramatic final which where the teams took turns in the lead. Tumba had 7–4 when Burgdorf scored three times in a short time in the end of the first half. After the break Tumba pulled away in a two goal lead, but the Germans fought together and both levelled and took the lead. After 12-11 it was Burgdorf in command.

And there ware some German players which can celebrate two times. Six players in Burgdorf hade a intense afternoon. They also helped the Boys 18-team which played the B-final and beat Heliopolis from Egypt with 30-25. That final started only 45 minutes before the final against Tumba. Luckily the Valhalla Idrottsplats was only 200 meters away from Scandinavium and they made it after a sprint between the arenas.

Girls 16 Kärra HF, Sverige–Skånela IF, Sverige 15–14 efter sudden death, 14–14 (6–6) vid full tid

In the middle of the second half this final looked to be lost for Kärra. By then Skånela was 12-8 up. Skånela was on the way towards revenge after losing last year’s final agains Sönderjyske. But Kärra mad four consecutive goals and a couple of minutes they equalized again with only seconds to play.

The goalkeeper in Kärra, Jenny Sandgren, made two crucial saves in the Sudden Death. Julia Eriksson was another important player fro Kärra, she made seven goals. But it was Mikaela Mässing who finally made the winner 15-14.

– It was a hard game, but we made it, she said after the game.
– Now we will celebrate with a barbecue party, added Julia Eriksson.

Kärra had a relatively easy group and made 76 goals in five games. But Skånela was even better, they did 139 goals. So, losing the final must be a big disappointment for them. On the other hand: it’s no shame to came second in Partille Cup.

Boys 15 Ondo State, Nigeria–Skanderborg HB, Danmark 15–19 (6–14)

The match looked to be over already after the first half, but a few minutes into the second something happened. Ondo State made goal after goal and suddenly it was 14–17 with Ondo State with the ball and almost three minutes to play.
– We wasn’t moving, it’s impossible to play handball that way. But I never felt the victory was getting out of our hands, says Skanderborgs coach Jesper Tönder. He mention the good work in the entire club when he explains why the won.

The most most exciting game wasn’t the final. In the 1/8-final Skanderborg won against Norrköping with 14–13.
– We made the winning goal with two seconds to play, says Tönder.

Notable was that Ondo State was a very popular finalist in Scandinavium. It was the last team to arrive but in spite of all the trouble, the pulled the act together and played good handball on the way to the final.

Girls 15 Huddinge HK 1, Sverige–BK Ydun, Danmark 12–17 (4–7)

The girls from Ydun has a capacity which is something really special. Now Ydun won Partille Cup for the second year running – and it looks like there’s more success around the corner.
– We have a good team and it’s not only one, two or three class players. We have excellent players in every position, says the coach Bert Chirstensen who wouldn’t be surprised if there are a couple of players that will go on to the national team.

The final against Huddinge was tough as well as in the all-Danish semifinal against Skanderborg.
– We allowed them to come close , but we sorted it out, says Bert Christensen.

Ydun’s girls had fun at both Liseberg and Players Club during the week and they gave the 3 000 spectators at Scandinavium a great show.

Girls 18 Lugi HF, Sweden – Spårvägens HF, Sweden 27-23 (13-12)The third final in Scandinavium today, was also just Swedish team, and Lugi played in this final as well. We can truly be impressed by the club from Lund.Lugi started off in high speed and gained the lead quickly with 4-1 before Språvägen really started playing. And turned Lugi’s lead to their own lead with 9-6 half way in the first half of the game. Lugi managed to even out the score to 10-10. And then took back the lead again, with 13-12 in halftime.

Lugi started off best in the second half as well by expanding their lead to 16-13 and then held on to a lead with 2-3 goal a far way in the second half part of the game. This was very much thanks to Lugi player Anna Bardis who made 10 goals in the game. Spårvägen kept on fighting, but they never really grasped Lugi lead again. In the end Lugi scored 27 of the 50 goals that were scored during the game, and won the club’s second trophy just in one hour in Scandinavium.

Boys 21 Redbergslids IK, Sweden – Lugi HK Sweden 16-20 (8-9)

Just as in the Girls 21 final is two of the classic Swedish handball clubs playing the Boys 21 final. In the beginning of the first half was the game really even, the teams changed the lead after every second goal, and with eleven seconds left in the first half Lugi did a counter and took the lead with 9-8.

Lugi also begun the second half good and six minutes in, they had a lead with 14-10. Redbergslid kept on fighting but didn’t succeed with using the time a player from Lugi got a 2-minutes-penalty to even out the scores.  Lugi kept the lead throughout the game and won at the end with 20-16.

Girls 21 IK Sävehof, Sweden – Lugi HF, Sweden 21-18 (9-12)

Two of Swedish women handball’s best teams the last years meet in the Partille Cup final in the oldest age group for girls, and both the teams have players with experience from the Swedish premium league. Sävehof took a quick lead in the game with 2-0, but Lugi turned the tables and got a lead with 2-3 and held on to it for the rest of the first half of the game, with four goals as the most. Sävehof evened out the score to 9-12 with free-throw, just before half time.

After Lugi got some suspensions during the beginning of the second half of the game, it was easier for Sävehof to get through Lugi’s compact defense and half through the second half of the game Sävehof had evened out the result to 16-16. The teams continued by scoring one goal on one side and one on the other, and with four minutes left of the game Sävehof took the lead with 19-18 for the first time since the beginning of the game. After some tough judging towards Lugi, Sävehof could make their lead even bigger and win with 21 -18.

The finals in the four oldest age groups is going to be decided, for the first time, in Scandinavium while they younger groups the 10-14 year olds is going to play in Valhalla Sporthall.

The girls in Puerto Del Carmen come from the tourist island of Lanzarote and they made it all the way to the A-play off, after they came into second place in group 7 in Girls 18. They only lost one game in the group and it was their first game against Särökometerna (9-10).
Puerto Del Carmen won over KvIK Sport in the sixteen-final with 22-11 before they lost against the Brazilian team Hebraica in a tough game (11-15). The dream of Spanish success died there, but another is still possible. The world cup final is played tomorrow between Spain and Holland.
– We are going to see that game – of course. We think Spain will win, says Beatrice Betancor and doesn’t look to sad about the fact they are out of the tournament.
But they will take home a new confidence after five victories in the tournament, and a lot of fun memories.
– We have had fantastic much fun. We have really enjoyed it here, continues Beatrice Betancor.
But some visit to the Players Club during Saturday night wasn’t planed.
– No, we are too tired for that…

This year they brought eleven teams, five girls’ teams and six boys’ teams. The trope from the Faroe Islands consists of 185 players, coaches and parents in total. The team has had varied results, but Neistins Girls 14 has made an exceptional achievement with six straight victories, over teams from Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Nigeria, which made them group champions.

The Swedish team Skånela was their first opponents on their way to the final, as they met them in the 1/16-final.That is at least what the players hope for when we talk to them after the victory against Skånela with 16-5 (10-3), which made them ready for the 1/8-final. Last year they reached the quarter-final in Girl 13, and this year the hope to be even better.

At the Faroe Islands is handball the prime sport for girls and the sport has many performers. Even though the Faroe Islands doesn’t have a big population they have 10-12 teams in the Girls 14 group. They play in a series there were they meet all teams three times, but there isn’t any big difference on the teams. In Partille Cup they play against tougher competition, and now it is good to be lucky with the draw to go far in the tournament, says the coach.

It is allowed to play with football shoes on the fields in Partille Cup, to gain better footing. All the twelve girls in Neistin have football shoes on and the explanation to that is easy. They all play football as well, but in another club, Neistin is an only handball club.

All girls in the team live in the community outside the capital Torshamn which is situated on the main island Streymoy, the island where almost half of the inhabitants live.

– I’m getting tears in my eyes, said Gunilla.
Ulf Andersson, who has been responsible for the education in the Olympic Solidarity project, talked about the project with Gunilla Lindberg, Carin Nilsson Green and Partille Cup’s President Stefan Albrechtson.

Gunilla Lindberg is the deputy President in the International Olympic Committee, and is described as the world’s seventh most influential person in sport, that isn’t an active performer. Carin Nilsson Green is in the Swedish Olympic Committee and honorable member in the Swedish Handball Federation. They were in Gothenburg together during midmorning Saturday to get an insight in both Partille Cup and Olympic Solidarity.

Stefan Albrechtson talked about on what grounds the eight nations and two hundred players who participated in Olympic Solidarity had been chosen. He said that it was an investment in the future, and there is a huge potential in the nations that has been in town for close to two weeks now.
– We believe that those who are here today will be leaders in their home nations in ten-fifteen years. The idea is that these players will be handball ambassadors, explained Ulf Andersson.

The entire project will be carefully followed up afterwards and many instructors have already been invited to the counties they have been in charge of during the Olympic Solidarity project.
– The International Olympic committee is all the time following how the sport evolves and which nations play they sport. Not just the teams that participate in the Olympic Games but the World Championships and other big games as well, tells Gunilla Lindberg.

She finds the Olympic Solidarity project to be very positive and welcome the cooperation that should continue to at least 2012.
– The participants in the project have got memories for life. When we had a barbeque for them they got to talk about their experiences. Then many stared to cry because the project was soon to be over, said Ulf Andersson.

That the project should be over isn’t true. This is just the beginning, because it is now the handball family start to grow bigger.

The game was relatively even in the beginning of the game, but then Sävehof took control and kept a lead of 4-5 goal during the major part of the game. Then Önnered exploded and scored goal after goal. Viktor Fåglund was a strong contributor to the change that occurred in the end of the game.

With a couple of minutes left of the game Sävehof’s lead was down to just one goal. Sävehof’s playmaker Olle Schefvert gets then injured and has to step of the field. Önnered scores and even out the result to 15-15 with only one minute left. Sävehof takes the lead again right afterwards with 16-15, and it looks like they are going to win. But Önnered rises once again and scores with just some seconds left of the game.

Sävehof wins the advantage to start with the ball in sudden death. It is both nervous and steaming feelings on the field. As a player from Sävehof is trying to get through the defense a player gets pushed in the back. A Önnered player gets a red card. Sävehof runs out of time in their initial attack and doesn’t score, and Önnered gets a chance determine the game. They would probably have won the game with one man short if it hasn’t been for Sävehof’s goalkeeper Isak Lindh extraordinary double save.

In the following attack Sävehof score and determine the game, and it was both happy and relieved players in Sävehof after the game.

Thanks to this IK Sävehof has manage to get all their three Boys 18-teams to the 1/8-finals of the A-play offs.

The International Handball Federation’s president Hassan Moustafa (pictured) looked like he enjoyed himself when nation after nation was drawn into their groups. Close to 500 invited adolescents, one team from every nation that is going to participate in the World Championship in Sweden after New Year, made the atmosphere in Scandinavium even better. 150 VIP-guests watch the draw, which was also broadcast on TV.

A good spirit was shown even after the World Championship draw. When almost 1 800 guests from all the corners of the world participated in Partille Cup’s Leaders Party. The party offered dinner, entertainment and handball talk which lasted until the late hours.

– We have had a really good time here and we have learnt a lot. Gothenburg is a nice city, the sightseeing tour was amazing, says Arham after the game.

The opponents were gentle with Arham and treated him with respect. But it was of course not easy for him to get good chances to score. The player who made the most goals was the very talented Omesh Tulaskar. The team took part of the Olympic Solidarity during their first week in Partille, together with other non-handball nations.

– We won several games then. We played a really good game against Zimbabwe and then I scored two or three goals.
– And he did score one goal in the B18-group in Partille Cup, adds a teammate.

But what we wonder is why does he play with some much older teammates.
– I’m here get experience. I play with people in my own age back home in India, but I got the opportunity to go here with the older guys.

Mumbai has now played their last game in Partille Cup this year and later today or tomorrow they will take the ferry to Denmark to play anther cup there.

It is 48 Swedish and 49 foreign clubs that have won the groups. The clubs from Sweden have together won 101 groups, while the foreign clubs have won 60.

How has your team played so far?
– Skogås has two teams, one of them has won all their games and my team has won two games and lost three. We are playing B-play offs this afternoon, says Maja.

Is this your first time in Partille Cup?
– Yes, this year is the first time.

What do you think is the best thing about Partille Cup?
– It is to meet teams from other nations, usually we just meet teams from Stockholm.

Have you done something fun during the week besides playing handball?
– Yes, we went to Liseberg. We are also planning to play sumo handball later today

Police is a very serious team that has earlier spent most of their time on the field or at the school they stay in.
– The night off is a reward for a good group play, says the team translator.

Tomorrow they will be back to business again. It will first be a game against Särökometera. Then it might be four more, before their flight will take them back to Egypt.

He is drawing on a whiteboard, the team’s own players is symbolized with one colour, and the opponents with another. He asks one of the boys to stand up during the review, so he could show the moving pattern even clearer. Some of the players add comments and ask questions on what they are going through on the whiteboard.

The players go to their own room at Burgården and changes clothes for the game, when the review is done. They are going to play their last game before the play offs.
– We have gone through what possibilities we have to go far in the play offs. Our team is good, and their ambition is high, tells coach Mohsen Abdou.

The team has handball training three times a week in school, back home in Egypt. During the summer season they have time to play even more, then they play handball five times a week.
–  We play many games when they are in this age, says Mohsen Abdou.
–  It can be up to 40 -50 games, throws Ashraf Elfar, another of the team’s coaches, in.

But right now it is only focus on the next game. Police SF is in the play offs. And the last three year they have won Partille Cup…

– Yes, we have seven players that couldn’t take the same flight as us when we changed in Frankfurt, since it was overbooked. But we just found out that they will arrive at Landvetter around 12 a.m. We hope they will be here for our third game.

How has the rough journey affected you?
–  The wait is the worst thing. We took a flight from Lagos last night at 22.22, but we have slept pretty well, and we have already eaten twice today. We are ready for our first game.

You are going to play four games in today. Do you think you will manage?

– Of course, no problem. One of Tope’s teammates flex his biceps, to show just how strong they are. And they sure do look fit. And they hope they will repeat last year’s success. They reached the semifinals then, but they couldn’t stand up against last year’s champions Lugi.

If it is possible come down to Heden and watch Ondo State’s games or some of the other hundred teams’ games. The weather is great today and we have a fantastic handball festival here!

One of the Egyptian teams from Alexandria is going to perform a dance show at GT’s Karaoke Stage today at 3 p.m. They would like to spread their culture and have practiced on a dance performance, when not playing handball, during the last two months.

We can guarantee that it will be a unique show, so make sure to be at Partille Cup Center at Heden and GT’s stage for some Egyptian culture.

Player disqualified after fight
There were some bad feelings during a game on Thursday and a fight occurred.
One player delivered a stroke and has been disqualified from the tournament by Partille Cup’s technical committee.

Just ask Bengt Johansson, the most successful coach a Swedish national team ever had. After Bengan Boys won over the Gothenburg Alliance in a show off game, that was an event during Partille Cup, he told us the truth behind his success:
– I will say as the Spanish national football team’s manager after they made it to the World Cup final. It is all about choosing the right players…

Bengan Boys had tones of national team routine. Magnus Wislander, Stefan Lövgren, Björn Jilsén, Ljubomir Vranjes… yes, the list of celebrities can be even longer: Peter Gentzel, Jerry Hallbäck, Magnus Lidén, Johan Pettersson, Pär Jilsén and Johan Eklund.
– It was really fun. But we could have at least ten times more amusing things if it hadn’t been raining, said Johan Pettersson.

The stars wrote autographs and took photos together with the fans after the game. And it wasn’t just Swedish Partille Cup-players that had gathered around the court.
– We play a couple of these games every year. It is so fun, says Ljubomir Vranjes that didn’t find the rain to be a reason for complaint.

Close to 1 000 people was watching the game. One of the spectators was the International Handball Federation’s president Hassan Moustafa. He enjoyed the game.
– It was a good game, said Moustafa afterwards.
Then he shook Bengt Johansson’s hand and congratulated him to yet another victory.

The twelve-year-olds from Cairo, Egypt isn’t used to lose at the handball field. They have after all come home from Partille Cup with “The golden hand” the last three years. But Selestat Alsace was a though game during Thursday morning, which ended 15 to 18.
- They were a good team, but we could have played much better, thinks player Mohamed Amr.

The Egyptian coach was a bit unhappy with the players’ approach to the game, but he got to see his team more focused during the second game of the day. That game ended with 13 to 6 against Fortuna HGF from Sweden.
After the game it was more talk about the weather than the game.
- It was cold, says Sayed Tarek.

He stands in the hallway and is shivering whilst his teammates are coming in to the warmth one by one. Some older guys, from Egypt as well, speak with the gang from Police SF.
- How do you do with the games, now when it is raining, asks one of the older guys.
He shudders when he understands that the games are supposed to continue as planned, and starts to prepare for an even colder afternoon.

The boys summarize today’s games and make their way to the cafeteria for lunch. The lunch that is served today at Burgården is chicken nuggets and rice. Many of the players get themselves a second round.
- It was excellent, says Mohamed Amr.

It is not an afternoon for outdoor activities today, so Police stays at the school and think about what is to come.
It would be a dream to meet Selestat Alsace one more time this week. In the final…

48 nations marched in, Jonas Boding was the compere and the sisters Molly, Mimmi and Frida Sandén’s singing made the show even better.

Six youths from different parts of the world read Partille Cup’s mission statement on Arabic, Russian, German, French, English and Swedish:
”To spread handball internationally and use Partille Cup to create understanding and knowledge of different cultures and religions between the world’s young handball players.”

But Cornelia and Carl made the most acclaimed performance on stage as they sang Lionel Richies and Michael Jacksons “We are the world”.

Iceland, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden were the last nations to make an entrance during the opening ceremony. That was also a countdown to the nation with the most participating teams in Partille Cup.

The opening ceremony finished with extraordinary indoor fireworks.
Now all that is left to see is if it will be one or another bang during the games…

Ondo State was involved in massive collision on their way to the airport. They players were without injuries, but the collision was so huge that the team was delayed and missed their flight from Nigeria. One of the team’s drivers was also injured.

But Ondo State has not giving up hope, they are still planning to participating in Partille Cup. They are now booked on a flight that is expected to Landvetter on midmorning Friday. Their first game is planned for less than 2 hours after their arrival.

The Partille Cups officials are now trying to reorganize the matches so Ondo State’s B15-team gets an opportunity to play five matches in the group on Friday. It is going to a really tight schedule for Ondo State.

During Partille Cup, the day before the draw to the World Championship, we offer a fantastic match between Bengan Boys and the Gothenburg Alliance. The match is played at Heden 4 close to the stand.
Names such as Stefan Lövgren, Ljubomir Vranjes, Magnus Wislander and Peter Gentzel make it tickles a little extra, the team is led by legendary Bengt ”Bengan” Johansson. Our latest star trainer Mikael Franzen and his Gothenburg Alliance has a secret team list but if the rumor is true Bengan Boys will have a tough fight.

After that start on the morning, they were ready to play. Police scored 50 goals during Wednesday’s games, 13 against the organizing club IK Sävehof and 37 against German Haltern-Sythen.
It is 16 12-year-old boys who share one classroom at the top floor of Burgården. They arrived this night around midnight, but they didn’t get to sleep in on Wednesday morning. They had to get up 7.30, but today’s games were finished at 13.00, and then they could relax.

- We want to do the very best that we can, say the boys from Egypt who speaks for the team today.
They speak English and tell us that English has been on their curriculum since they stared school.�
The planes they have made for their first afternoon of, during Partille Cup, is to watch even more handball…
The team’s coach tells us that they are here to get as much knowledge as possible on how to act as a professional player.  It is therefore important to look at other games and players, when they aren’t focusing on their own games.

- We are going to stay in Gothenburg one extra day. Then can we have fun, says the coach.
On Wednesday night is the opening ceremony at the top of the list on things to do. Mohamed Amr and Mohamed Osama have played Partille Cup before and know what to expect of the opening ceremony.

- It is amazing, says Mohamed Amr as his and Mohamed Osamas eyes shine of expectations.

Did you make in time?
- No, ten minutes had almost passed when we got to the game. But we were happy to see that we were in the lead with 4 to 3. Our team begun the game with only four players on the field and one goalkeeper, says Kuo Ming-Yi, who got into the goal as soon as he came.
Was it hard to play two games in a row?
- No, it was no problem. We exercise together in school almost every day, says Chiu Chi-Kai confident.
Do you think you will manage to play like this the entire week?
- I hope so. We are used to play hard. But of course it can be tough in the play-offs, we might get a bit tired, Yao Han-Yang confident.
Have you played outside earlier?
- Yes, we always play outside, says Cai Hung-Sheng one of the other twelve-year-olds.
Do you play at artificial grass at home as well?
- No, we play on regular grass or tarmac back home in Taiwan. It is a bit slippery on the artificial grass, but we will be used to it soon, continues Cai.

And when the players have become used to the grass they will probably become really, really good. Because when the four younger players showed up, continued Wun-Chang to do a really good game. They won against Skogås from Sweden with 23 to 9. And it looks like the match program will suit them better in the rest of the tournament – so the boys who play in both teams will get some rest between the games.

The journey from Egypt to Sweden was both longer and tougher than expected. The team, 12-year-old boys and their leaders, some parents and siblings, made a stopover in Frankfurt and were delayed almost three hours. They arrived to Landvetter late Tuesday night.
It wasn’t noticeable that the journey had been tough on the guys, they were both very active and optimistic.
- We are here to win, said Sayed Tarek.
His teammates Seifeldin Shehab and Mohamed Aymen nods in agreement and laughs.
Cocky attitude? No, not at all. Sayed Tarek was humble when he spoke of their approach toward the tournament and their expectations. But what he said can come to be true. Police FC won Boys 11 last year and Boys 10 both 2007 and 2008…
- It is my second time here in Gothenburg. It is going to be fun, and I hope I will get to see some more of Gothenburg as well. And I want to go out shopping, continued Sayed Tarek.
Then he got on the bus with his team to be transported from Landvetter to central Gothenburg. The Partille Cup- journey will continue with many games and much more experiences. And we will come back to those stories…

The luggage came – but no players
You have surely seen people at the airports stand and wait unsuccessfully for their bags. But in this story the situation in the other way around. The French handball club US Créteil was expected to Landvetter airport during Tuesday midmorning, but there were no players on the flight from Paris. Just luggage for 30 people and the teams’ collective equipment. Ten of them showed up during the afternoon instead, five more will come during the evening and the fifteen that is left are expected to Landvetter during Wednesday.

77 days to carry out Partille Cup
Partille Cup is played on 55 playing fields in central Gothenburg. It is five days with games, but also with time for the 19 000 players to do other activities. But if you would play all 3687 games directly after each other on one playing field –we would need 77 days to carry out the tournament. The total game time in minutes is 111 700, and then the finals would be played without extra time (sudden death).

Referees from 22 nations
198 referees make sure that the rules are followed during Partille Cup. It is more referees than ever before. There are more foreign referees than Swedish – 126 against 72. Many of the referees have travelled a long way to get to Gothenburg. Venezuela, India and Ghana are three of the 22 nations the referees come from.

New team gets clearance on Wednesday
On Wednesday a new team can get to be drawn in Partille Cup. Ondo State from Nigeria had practically given up hope to get their 12-years-old girls to Partille Cup, when an opportunity to get their visa application accepted opened up on Tuesday. The Nigerian embassy has given preliminary information that says that the players will get their visas on Wednesday morning. In that case the team will immediately drawn in to the tournament. If everything goes according to plans the team will take a flight from Nigeria during Wednesday evening and touch ground in Gothenburg on Thursday.

What is your task, Wayne?
– I work as an analytics and I am trying out new software here. I have furthermore recorded on film and written quite a bit. We have gotten an opportunity to learn many new things in a short amount of time it is important to document it, so we won’t forget what we have learned. And we have learnt a lot. The leaders have been amazing – with leaders like them I understand that Sweden is among the best in the world.

How have you experienced your time in Sweden so far?

– The week at Ugglumskolan has been amazing. It is wonderful to see the girls from Benin and Gabon play a spontaneous game against the team from the U.S. on the tarmac field. It is a wonderful sense of community and everything is about having fun. There is not a trace of politics. Just joy! The handball really brings out the best of the youth. And the local population is really friendly, it is clear that you Swedes are proud over your country.

What kind of background to the English players have?

– Most of them started with handball as late as September last year. They are beginners, but already very attached to the sport.

Have you played handball yourself?
– No, I am from new Zeeland and everything is about rugby there. But my son plays and that is why I am here. He has played rugby since he was a kid and he was supposed to be on a tryout for the district team this past autumn. But just some days before the tryout he went to a handball training and was completely lost in the game. He was so sure that it was the right thing for him that he instantly told his rugby coach that he was quitting. Now handball is the only thing for him.

It doesn’t seem like such a big step from rugby to handball…
– The sports really do have many similarities – the battle, the strength, the precision. But in handball you don’t have to deal with the cold and the mud…

Do you think the English teams are going to have a chance against the teams in Partille Cup?
– Hardly. We are going to meet players who have been doing the sport since they were seven years old. Our teams are here to watch and learn. And to try out the new things they have learnt during the week.

But England is on their way and handball wins new ground slowly but surely. England, India, U.S., China, Benin, Gabon and Nigeria are some of the countries. Handball is up to an exciting future. And maybe the English national team in handball win a World Championship gold before the national football team does…

– We have looked forward to this moment ever since the tournament ended last year. The atmosphere is really special and everyone has expectations on an experience of a lifetime, says Partille Cup’s General Secretary Fredrik Andersson.

Partille Cup 2010 is the 41^st one and already a record tournament. 1 035 teams are coming to play. That means 19 000 participants leaving their marks all over central Gothenburg until Sunday.
– Our ambition is to all the time develop Partille Cup, if the number of entrants is something to measure after, have we done very well so far, says Fredrik Andersson.

He is walking around Heden together with Partille Cup’s President Stefan Albrechtson, to look around before the tournament starts for real. In one way you could say that Partille Cup already has started since European Open was sneaky and already has started.

The main tournament gets it finishing touch during the Tuesday, the teams arrives to town and the expectations are rising.

Wednesday night it is time for Partille Cup’s big Olympic Games inspired Opening Ceremony Show in Scandinavium. All 50 participating counties are represented in a march in, and then it will be more entertainment for the 13 000 spectators.
– Right now the Opening Ceremony is what gives us concern. We fill up every seat in Scandinavium right now. It does make the Opening Ceremony to a big party, but what will happen if the tournament grows even larger? asks Fredrik Andersson himself.

55 playing fields are in order for Partille Cup. 30 of them are situated on Heden.
Everything is ready for a great tournament.

Where do I register?

How will I know if I am selected?

Selection of referees will be in several steps, starting when we get the preliminary tournament schedule. Stay updated on mail and on our home page.

When does the tournament start for the referees?

Partille Cup 2010 is played 7-11 Juli. Information meeting for referees Tuesday July 6:th at 20 o´clock.

If I want to arrive/depart other days than the tournament days, are there possibilities for extra nights?

Yes, there are possibilities to pay for extra nights both before and after the tournament.

When do I get my referee list?

All referees will receive there referee list on the information meeting the 6:th at 20 o’clock.

Accomondation for referees?

All referees stay at a school free of charge. There are possibilities to stay at hotel if wanted, but is paid by referees themselves.

What do I need to bring, and what is included?

All referees will get a bed, madras, sheet and pillow at the school. All referees will get a Partille Cup card that gives you right to use public transportation systems, get meals at the school, gain entry to Players Party and entry to Liseberg. All referee gear is brought by referees themselves.

How many games do i referee per day?

Every full day referee has 6-10 games a day.

Where are the games?

All games are played on synthetic grass (except Ullevi that has natural grass) in centre of Goteborg.

What will I get paid for?

Full day referees will receive 70kr/day during the tournament (max 5 days). There will be NO compensation for the way to and from Goteborg. The payment for the matches is 100kr for G/B21 (Playoffs) and 80kr for the other matches.

Where/how do I eat during the tournament?

Breakfast is served at school where the referees are staying. Lunch and dinner is served at Katrinelundsskolan.

Transport during the tournament?

All full day referees gets a Partille Cup card that allows You to use public transportation systems in Goteborg. Parking will be available at school, so there will be NO compensation for parking tickets at courts.

Transport to and from Landvetter?

If You are selected and wish to arrive by airplane to Landvetter Airport, take contact with us in time with flight info and times so we can try to arrange transports.

This year’s tournament is heading against a new record in number of participating teams, again. We are also happy that nations as Denmark, Russia and Germany are participating with more teams than ever before. Furthermore, Partille Cup continues to be the most international tournament with participating teams from countries such as Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Gabon.

In Partille Cup’s Got Talent, you and your friends have the chance to show your skills in the middle of Partille Cup Center. Players from all over the world will get time in the spotlight and show their special talents! Use your imagination and e-mail a brief description of your routine to sofia@partillecup.com. The winner will be chosen by a jury and rewarded in connection with the finals in Scandinavium.

You can choose 3 songs and you can only vote once.

This year´s Partille Cup – Kenya Trophy went very well. The tournament bet the record and had 53 participating teams with approximately 800 players. Your support will make the poor feel as part of the handball community and the rest of the world. When we train the players and they get the opportunity to be employed to play handball in our local clubs, I always feel that I have achieved my objective.

The teams come from central Kenya mostly from our local area. Some of the teams live far away from where Partille Cup – Kenya Trophy is played. The girls and boys from a place called Ngano, covered a distance of 120 Km by foot to participate in the tournament. The girls and boys teams from Ndathi had to walk a very hostile route to get to the tournament. The distance is 83 Km but going there is a night mare since the route is full of huge stones and steep cliffs in the mountain.

All officials and players of Partille Cup – Kenya Trophy sends their greetings to the handball world and hopes to meet you all at Partille Cup this summer.

The winners of Partille Cup – Kenya Trophy 2009

Purpose
The purpose of this project is to give undeveloped, but serious trying handball nations a real chance to get a platform for handball. We want to create a lifelong interest for sport and handball in particular. We also want to give leaders and players a basic education of handball in both theory and practice. The players shall also be inspired, not only in their role as players, but also to be a future leader inspiring schools and teachers/adults/leaders to set up clubs, starting competitions and clinics.

IHF has chosen 25 countries that Partille Cup will invite for a longer stay in Gothenburg. The goal for 2010 is to have 12 teams, 6 boys and 6 girls teams, with their leaders for a 14 days stay to be educated in handball. Partille Cup will arrange accommodation, clinics, training and matches for these teams.

Scandinavium is, as most of you know, the arena for our big Opening Show on Wednesday.
On Friday we rearrange the arena for our Leaders Party, and after the party we will use the night to build a handball court inside the arena.

- We believe that this will give our Finals a better experience.  There will be room for approximately  5 000 spectators and we can also use all the sound and light that we used during the Leaders party, which will give us opportunities for a really festive setting,  says Fredrik Andersson, General secretary of Partille Cup.

Saturday’s handball starts with the last matches for the national team tournament, European Open Championship, and at night the European Open final will be played. On Sunday only the Partille Cup finals will be played and which age groups that will play in Scandinavium are not really clear yet.

The remaining finals will be played at Valhalla sports halls and B-finals outdoor at Valhalla IP.

- Scandinavium and Valhalla is located next to each other so we will get a final area that can be appreciated. Now you can easily move between stadiums and watch the finals that you are interested in, says Fredrik.

Many of the players come from really difficult family situations. They may be orphans, live with their old grandparents, lost parents in AIDS or even be homeless. By day the young people often seek temporary jobs, which is not easy to find. When they get a good job it is usually not giving enough money for food for the day.

Mount Kenya HC is trying to start up handball in the villages. By exercising a sport they can for a moment forget their situation. By handball, they can get to know each other, feel fellowship among them, exchange experiences and give each other hope for the future. The club also helps with food and education for the most vulnerable children. The education is very important to have a chance to move forward.

Partille Cup Mission:

This weekend Partille Cup visited Aalborg, Denmark. During an EHF-game representatives from Partille Cup met the spectators to talk a little about our tournament.

-  The atmosphere was great and it was a wonderful experience, says Glenn Claesson who was one of the representatives.

On the spot was also Ib Poulsen, The Partille Cup ambassador in Denmark. He says:
- Denmark is a big handball nation and the youth handball here is very professional. For many teams it is natural to go to Partille Cup and Denmark is one of the five largest nations in the tournament. This is an opportunity to exchange experiences and to get to know what the Danish teams feel about Partille Cup.

Partille Cup is the most international youth handball tournament. 84 nations from all 6 continents have participated. In 2010 more teams and nations than ever are expected.

We would like to thank Ib Poulsen, Jörgen Larsen, Glenn Claesson and Aab Håndbold for all the help.

Many participants remember Partille Cup with joy. Maybe it´s because Partille Cup is so much more than just handball: an Opening Ceremony at a crowded Scandinavium, disco with thousands of young people, the city Gothenburg with its fantastic west coast and Liseberg, the largest amusement park in Northern Europe. But above all we think that it is the moments that you remember.

The excitement after a successful game. The laugh from your friends. The crowd at Heden with thousands of players and participants from all over the world. The cheer and shouts from the spectators. Since the beginning over 300 000 players and trainers from all six continents of the world have visited Partille Cup. Here you will experience that special feeling that comes up when a whole world meet, get together, have fun and exchange thoughts and ideas.

The purpose with Partille Cup has always been the same: to gather handball playing youth from all over the world at one place. A place where you can do what you love the most – play handball.

Here at Partille Cup 2009 the guys won their preliminary round. GB Glace took the chance too celebrate with them. The sun is shining and it is 26 degrees Celcius. Lasse is going home to grab a meal before he continues his day of watching handball. The reason why he is such a enthusiastic supporter maybe depends on what all athletics learn through life.

Welcome back tomorrow at 18.00!

They were promised to get their visas on Monday but then only seven of the players got their papers. One coach travelled with these players back to Akure and started the journey to Sweden. But there was more problem. Somewhere during the journey the bag with all the match jerseys disappeared. So, when the team began the first match they played in borrowed jerseys from the organizing club. Today they got their bag back, but the players seems to like their Sävehof-shirts and kept them on for today’s games.

Team Ondo was looking very impressive against Haslum and Skånela. And by tomorrow they’re hoping that the rest of the players have arrived. Because everyone got the visas and right now there are nine boys – longing for handball – on a plane to Stockholm.

Ondo State is one of the best teams in Nigeria. They have eight youth teams in the ages between 11 and 21. This team won the national championship for Boys 13 last year and the big price was to go to Gothenburg and Partille Cup.

After the game Mr Yusuf Dauda, president of the Nigerian Handball Federation was very pleased with the team. We met him in the shadow where the players have escaped the sun.

Does the players really find it hot here in Sweden?

- It’s not warmer than in Nigeria. But it is almost the same temperature here in summer as home in Nigeria and the players have to cool off after the game.

Vad do you think of the Partille Cup?

It’s very well organized. Nice field and and good games. We have got good help from the organizers to solve the visa problems.

Is handball always played outdoors in Nigeria?

No, we have a number of indoor arenas with nice wooden floor. But most of the games are played outdoor on tarmac.

Why are you here in Sweden?

- To watch the team of course. But also to meet representatives from the Swedish Federations. We’re hoping to start a cooperation where we can get help to strengthen the organization and the national team.

Which are the best achivements in Nigerian handball?

- We have never played in World Championship. But we have won a silver and a bronze in the African Cup. Now we’re working to build the youth organization to make it to World Championship in the future.

The darkness in the Scandinavium arena is full of loud cheering, giggling and expectations. Among the 13 000 spectators it’s the first time for many, for others it’s just a tense waiting for the show to begin. Suddenly the Big screen lightens up. It shows the 40 years anniversary logotype as a symbol of decades of handball festivals. The music is low and the camera catches the smile of the players, live at the arena. It is time. After a pause of complete silence a handball is flying like a meteor through the space at the screen. Faster and faster it’s on its way to hit our world when a big cloud of smoke appears on the stage. In the last second the meteor handball is caught by a hand. A single light shines at the master of ceremonies, the host of the night, Johan Boding. “Welcome world!” he screams.

Next part in this fantastic memory is when the music starts and the world transform into a Mecca of handball. The flags of all nations are flashing by on the screen and stop at Austria! Followed by Belarus! And Belgium! The teams march in with their flags high in the air, carried by beautiful white dressed girls. Just this moment every special girl or boy in these teams feels entirely happy, representing her or his country in front of the giant audience. The countries keep on marching in…

Until it’s time for one of the biggest common interests, after handball, of course – Music! And time for the result of this years song-voting to be presented. Do you remember? The song on third place, “I kissed a girl”, echoed and filled the air at the same time as love and friendship filled the screen with kisses and hugs from handball players from all over the world.

But maybe that isn’t your strongest memory. Maybe you stood at the floor waiting to march in with the next 15 countries. Running, jumping and screaming the name of your country Finland! France! FYR Macedonia!

The music plays on and the second placed song “Low” is performed by Sofia and Mofo the Maverick. Soon more countries enter the stage and it feels like it never ends, like the whole world really is here. Soon after that it is finally time for the winner-song to be pronounced, “Apologize”!

Another great moment is the world’s largest Guitar Hero! Remember if you don’t won your game today you at least scored a world record. And maybe that’s even better.

This is how we describe some parts of the magical Opening Ceremony. You all have your own unique experiences. And together this night at Scandinavium makes it a 13 000 unique experiences.

Seven games in girls 11 started almost at the same time this morning at Ullevi Stadium. One of the games was played between Sävehof team 6 and Sävehof team 3.  They had been playing just over a minute when Matilda Gyllenhammar broke free and put the ball in the net.
This was a historical goal – the first ever handball goal at Ullevi Stadium!

By the way…the first football goal was made by the Olympic champion Gunnar Gren. And the first boxing-knockout was won by theworld heavyweight champion Ingemar Johansson. Maybe Matilda will follow them and become the champion of Partille Cup this year.

Dancers, singers and choreographs will make the ceremony to a memory for life for 13 000 viewers.

The trains stands in a row and the asphalt is shining. The girls heads are full of excitement and expectations. They take a grab of the big bags and start walking to the transfer bus that will take them to their school. The adventure starts now!

Partille Cup has grown every year during 21st Century. We are almost twice as many teams participating this year as we were ten years ago when we celebrated the 30th Partille Cup. All the games is now played in Gothenburg so that we can offer all participants a total experience with closeness to the courts and all other activities the City offers.

930 teams will until Sunday fight for the victory in the nine age categories for boys and girls, and one nation will already on Saturday be Champions in the European Open Championship for National teams, 19 year old men, which is held in the frame of Partille Cup.

Only 19 teams, or 2 % of the participating teams, will stand as Champions in Partille Cup, but we hope that many more will feel like winners at the end of this week. The games are of course at focus for all teams, but Partille Cup offers so much more.

Partille Cup offers the possibility to meet new friends across boarders of nations and languages. You can find new friends at the court, in the schools or at the disco at Player’s Party. Our advice is to take the chance to learn to know new players and leaders. They might be fiends for life.

The forecasts say that we will have a warm and sunny week, and we have better courts then ever. New from this year is that the players in the younger age categories might have the chance to play and the largest arena in the City – Ullevi – where the large rock concerts and national football matches otherwise is held, and we hope to offer the best Opening Ceremony ever on Wednesday night.

We hope that Partille Cup this year will be an unforgettable experience for you who participate, in the same way it have been for hundreds of thousands of young handball players during the past 40 years.

- Nothing says that they can´t get back into Heden, but now they are where they belong, says Frans Dahlén, press spokesperson for the police.

Partille Cup thanks the elks for the attention and hopes they stay at the forest.
On Wednesday the fist Partille Cup matches starts and 16 500 players will be at Heden.
Then it won´t be any space for elks.
