“Mr Valur" celebrates his wedding anniversary at Partille Cup
It’s the fourth time the coach celebrates the anniversary at the tournament.
Valur coach Oskar Oskarsson has a long-standing history in the club which has earned him the nickname “Mr Valur”, a name he lives up to by spending his wedding anniversary at Partille Cup for the fourth time.
The Valur G16 team finishes their game, which was a tight one against HK Aranäs 2 in the rain. Coach Oskar Oskarsson converses with his team on the sidelines. Oskar has been a coach for many different teams in the Icelandic club, ranging from teams in the youth section up to more senior teams, boys and girls. His long-standing tenure in the team has given him the title “Mr Valur” amongst other people in the club.
– I've been a coach at the club for about 30 years now, says Oskar.
It's also his wedding anniversary, and the coach is no stranger to spending this day at the handball tournament. He's been married to his wife for 14 years, and four of those anniversaries have been spent at Partille Cup. Oskar's wife Arna Oskarsson is on the sidelines as well, cheering on the couple's daughter who plays on the team. She does not mind spending their wedding anniversary at Partille Cup.
– We just love to follow our kids, and we love the sport, says Arna.
They have two daughters who are currently playing in Valur’s G15 and G16 teams at the tournament, as well as two sons who have featured for both Valur and the Icelandic national team.
– We’re enjoying Partille Cup, but the weather could be nicer, says Arna.
