The winners of the Fair Play Trophy
Emilia Sundberg, Fjellhammer IL B13, Högni Dignus Mariuson and Mikkel Olsen Fjörtoft are the well deserved winners of the Fair Play Trophy this year.
They have all shown great sportsmanship and fair play during the Partille World Cup week.
Högni Dignus Mariuson from FH Hafnarfjördur’s B15 team is very happy about his prize.
– It feels great. It really means much to me. I’m very proud of myself, says the Icelandic teenager.
He has acted in a fair play way during the full tournament.
– I helped my teammate. He was about to get in to get into a fight, I stopped it. That’s not handball to me. Handball is just fun and enjoyment, says Högni Dignus Mariuson.
He also helped a child that was being bullied. Therefore, the Fair Play Trophy was well deserved.
Högni Dignus Mariuson is happy about his experience in Gothenburg.
– Partille World Cup is the best tournament in the world. It’s a lot of handball. It’s been a great week. We’ve lost but we’re going to the shop, the mall and everything so it’s going to be okey tonight, he says.
In fact, it’s not his first participation in Partille World Cup.
– I have been playing here one time before. It was way better this time. It’s always getting better, says the FH Hafnarfjördur player.
He has only nice things to say about the city.
– I love Gothenburg. It’s a big city and a lot is going on. I love it, he says.
Högni Dignus Mariuson will play handball for many more years.
– My dream in handball is just to have fun, says the prize winner.
Read why they received the Fair Play Trophy:
Fjellhammer IL, B13 – the whole team:
”After the opposing team lost several players due to visa issues and were left with only five outfield players, this team made a remarkable decision. They opted to play half of the match with one fewer player to level the playing field. This gesture not only showcased their commitment to fair play but also highlighted their understanding that friendship and sportsmanship are more important than just trying to win. By prioritizing equity over advantage, they exemplified the true spirit of sports. For this extraordinary action the Fair Play Trophy is proudly awarded to Fjellhammer IL B13.”
Högni Dignus Mariuson, FH Hafnarfjördur B15:
”The Fair Play Trophy is awarded to a boy who provided strong mental support for his team, always treating everyone with kindness and respect. When a teammate was about to get into a fight after a match, he stepped in and calmed the situation. Moreover, he protected a child who was being bullied both physically and mentally on the schoolyard where his team are staying, courageously addressing the bullies and offering his support to the offer. His actions exemplify extraordinary leadership, empathy and an unwavering commitment to promoting a positive and respectful environment both on and off the field.”
Mikkel Olsen Fjörtoft, Ramheim IL B15:
”The next Fair Play Trophy is going to a goalkeeper who showed exceptional sportsmanship. In a game which his team dominated, he sensed the opposing goalie's frustration and decided to join the attack. He signaled for the opposing goalie to do the same, and when he did, the goalkeeper stepped aside, allowing him to score and cheered enthusiastically. It turned the game into a joyful experience, leaving everyone, including the once-defeated goalie, smiling. It was a true testament to the spirit of sportsmanship and an action deserved a Fair Play Trophy.”
Emilia Sundberg, Lugi HF G13:
”The next prize winner is a girl who has shown perfect example for kindness, compassion and consistent care for others both on and off the field. During matches, she displays intense focus and strives to ensure her team's success, yet remains quick to assist anyone, whether from her own team or the opposition. Handball has a big place in her heart and she is dedicated to the sport, but her priorities always lie with friendship and love. Known for her comforting presence, even to those unfamiliar with her, she is quick to aid anyone who falls, cries, or shows signs of distress on the court. Therefore the Fair Play Trophy is awarded to Emilia Sundberg.”
