Partille World Cup – heading towards a new record

The new year has only just begun, and already it is clear that Partille World Cup is heading towards a historic tournament. Never before have so many teams been registered at the turn of the year as for this year’s edition. – We keep getting bigger and better, says Fredrik Andersson, Secretary General of Partille World Cup.

The interest is also clearly international. Alongside strong growth from established handball nations, this year we see new teams from exciting countries such as Mexico, Guatemala, China and Zimbabwe, which further strengthens the tournament’s global character.
– This shows that we are not only staying relevant, but that we are strengthening our position and becoming relevant to even more people. It clearly shows that Partille World Cup is a force to be reckoned with in the handball world, where we continue to bring people together from all over the world through handball, says Fredrik Andersson.

At present, the tournament has 33 per cent more registered teams compared to the same time before last year’s tournament. The trend therefore shows a clear increase compared to last year, but above all also a strong increase compared to the previous record year of 2019, when 1,376 teams took part in Partille World Cup.
– Everything we do with the tournament is about getting better. It’s not about anything radical – every year we review all parts of the organisation and ask ourselves: what can we do to become even better? What we see now is the result of that work, and I am convinced that we will continue to grow and mean more to more people with each passing year, says Fredrik Andersson.

The tournament format continues to be built around what participants appreciate most. The competition is played with A, B and C playoffs, which creates more matches, better sporting balance and a stronger overall experience for all teams. At the same time, the focus on elite groups, introduced last year, continues in Boys 16 and 18 and Girls 16 and 18, where some of the world’s best youth teams come together.
– It is incredibly exciting to see the great interest already at the start of the new year. That we are breaking records for the number of registered teams at the turn of the year says a lot about Partille World Cup’s international position. At the same time, I really want to encourage teams that are considering taking part not to wait too long – several categories are already starting to fill up, says Fredrik Andersson.
