The website crashed due to record interest in the Partille World Cup 2027

At 10:00 AM on Thursday, the opportunity to register teams for the Partille World Cup 2027, the world’s largest youth handball tournament, was opened. The interest was unprecedented, so high that the website crashed within just a few minutes.

The Partille World Cup will take place in the first week of July 2027. During this time, Gothenburg will be filled with nearly 25,000 handball players and officials. This year, a record number of participants was set with 1,400 teams from 36 nations.

That record is likely to be broken in 2027. The interest in participating is at an all-time high. 50% more teams registered in the first few hours than during the entire first day last year. After just a few minutes, the website crashed.
– Our IT provider asked if we were under a cyberattack. We had to explain that 'no, we just opened registrations,' says Fredrik Andersson, Generalsecretary of the Partille World Cup.

After the capacity was spread out over more servers, teams were able to register again. The interest did not diminish. For instance, the spots in the category for local teams – those living so close that they do not need meals or accommodation from the tournament – were filled within ten minutes. Those who didn’t manage to secure a spot are now placed on a waiting list.
– It’s fantastic that so many teams, both from Sweden and internationally, want to participate in the tournament. It demonstrates the significance of the Partille World Cup as a meeting place for young people from around the globe, says Fredrik Andersson.

After six hours, several participant categories were closed and a third of the entire tournament was already filled.
– Now, other time zones are starting to wake up too, to register their teams. The Partille World Cup attracts teams from all continents, says Fredrik Andersson.
