A dominant goalkeeping performance secured Danish gold in G12
In the G12 final at Fristad Arena, Danish TIK Håndbold Blue faced Faroese H 71. Two strong teams that had both gone unbeaten through the tournament, but the Faroese side were ultimately defeated in a closely contested match following a strong goalkeeping performance.
H 71 took control of the match and were in the driver’s seat early on in terms of goals. As the game went on, TIK Håndbold Blue gradually worked their way back into it, and by the time both teams went into halftime, the Danes were leading 5–4.
Thanks to outstanding goalkeeping from Clara Fredsø Lysgaard in the TIK Håndbold Blue goal, the Danes managed to hold off H 71, who failed to score in the entire second half. The final score was set at 11–4.
Clara Fredsø Lysgaard was also named MVP of the final.
– This was very nice and very cool, she says after the match.
Now the team will head out to celebrate the gold medal in Gothenburg.
– We will eat a lot of candy and drink cola, says Fredsø Lysgaard with a smile on her face.
