4th of July is being celebrated in Gothenburg tonight
SF CalHeat from San Francisco is going out to celebrate the 4th of July on the streets of Gothenburg today.
It's a special day for the American team SF CalHeat 1 today at the Partille World Cup. It's the 4th of July, US Independence Day, this rainy Thursday in Gothenburg, and their Boys 18 team plans to celebrate this evening.
On Thursday, the rain started at 10 in the morning, just before SF CalHeat 1, Boys 18, prepared for their second match of the day. The rain poured down while one of CalHeat's three teams played at Heden.
In the match between CalHeat and the team from Helsingborg, the American goalkeeper made an outstanding performance, and the team led at times. Despite the loss, they kept their mood up after the match, as they were now going to celebrate the 4th of July, US Independence Day. All the players gathered afterwards to proudly display the US and Californian flags.
“We're all going out for dinner together to celebrate. We're going to watch some of the European matches and enjoy being in Sweden as a team,” said Aaron Wolf-Bloom.
Handball is a very unusual sport in the USA. Aaron Wolf-Bloom, from the San Francisco-based team, first heard about the sport in middle school and has been hooked ever since.
“I started because my school had a team; it was the first time I'd ever heard of the sport. I tried it for fun, made the tryouts, got into the team, and have been playing ever since.”
Last year, we heard one of CalHeat's coaches, Martin Bilello, talk about his hopes for handball and CalHeat to grow in the country. Read more about it HERE.
We wish SF CalHeat a great 4th of July out on the streets of Gothenburg and good luck in the playoffs starting tomorrow, Friday.
