Festival atmosphere awaits — here's what's new this year

A week of action-packed handball awaits in Gothenburg

On Tuesday, the Partille World Cup kicks off. A week filled with joy, community, and exciting matches awaits as the Partille World Cup takes over Gothenburg and its surroundings.

The tournament is growing, and so is the event. New for this year is that Celebrate stands on three pillars and is divided into three different parts. Celebrate the Planet aims to gradually reduce the negative climate and environmental impact for a more sustainable future. Through Celebrate the People, Partille World Cup aims to be a place for meetings between people from different cultures, countries, and ages. Through Celebrate the Game, Partille World Cup creates a better environment for everyone, both on and off the field.

Partille World Cup is a recurring festival that celebrates handball for a week every summer. Since the tournament started in 1970, a total of 593,000 players and 33,664 teams have come from 97 different countries and six continents to participate in the cup.

The 2024 edition is no exception; this year’s tournament will also be a festival. Partille World Cup 2024 has 23,000 participating players representing 1,316 different teams between the ages of 8 and 21. Together, these teams will play a total of 4,750 matches over six exciting days. The field consists of 612 Swedish teams and 704 foreign teams from 39 different nations. Besides the host nation, Denmark is participating with the most teams, with a total of 190 teams attending this year’s edition. The team that has traveled the longest distance to get to Partille World Cup 2024 is Club Italiano de BM from Chile, participating in the B16 category.

Partille World Cup engages all of Gothenburg, and handball is noticeable in every corner of the city. The teams are spread out across a total of 40 schools and 15 hotels in Gothenburg and will play their matches on 75 different courts. The venue with the most courts is Heden, which has 26 courts.

The tournament is a fantastic experience for both boys and girls. There is an even distribution between them, with the field consisting of 624 boys' teams and 692 girls' teams.
