From Player to Coach – Pablo Sobrevilla Returns to Gothenburg with Partille Club Peru
Pablo Sobrevilla is back at Partille World Cup – now as the coach of the Peruvian team that carries the tournament’s name.

Pablo Sobrevilla is visiting Gothenburg for the third time – but this time, he’s on the sidelines as a coach. The first time he came here was also for handball, as a player in a youth team from Peru. That experience had such a strong impact on him that it shaped his future – both in handball and in life. – I love this place. I came here for the first time for handball, and now it’s my third time in Gothenburg. It still feels just as special, says Pablo.
After that first tournament, the team decided to rename themselves Partille Club Peru, as a direct tribute to Partille World Cup and the inspiration it gave them. Returning has been a dream ever since.
– We always hoped we would come back. That first trip gave us so much – that’s why we carry it with us in the club name, he says.
Handball is still a small sport in Peru, and Pablo actually started out playing basketball. But a passionate handball coach during his youth sparked his interest – and today, handball is a central part of his life.
– Handball is my favorite sport. I have many friends through handball, and it makes me happy. Traveling, meeting other teams, and experiencing the world this way makes the passion even stronger, he says.
Now it’s his turn to give the next generation the kind of experience he once had as a young player. Besides the matches, he’s looking forward to showing the team the city – and maybe taking them to Liseberg.
– I’m really happy to be here again. Gothenburg is a beautiful city and it means a lot to me. I hope our players create memories here as special as the ones I carry with me.
