Partille Cup had its opening ceremony to the cheers of tens of thousands of young people for the first time since the pandemic
Partille Cups first opening ceremony after the pandemic was a great success.
Partille Cup’s back. The world’s largest youth tournament held its opening ceremony in front of 10205 youths at Scandinavium tonight.
– Amazing that it’s finally up and running. We’ll leave this day with a great opening ceremony behind us, says Fredrik Andersson, general secretary for Partille Cup.
Last time there was an opening ceremony was in 2019. The tournament has since then, in 2020 and in 2021, been cancelled twice.
It was finally time this year though – and it showed that the worlds handballers had been longing for this moment. After a joyous day with matches on a crowded Heden, the first day of Partille Cup culminated with the opening ceremony at Scandinavium.
– There’s something extraordinary with the fact that Partille Cups been cancelled. Twice, nonetheless. What we saw today was how people been longing for it, both the people that participated in the opening ceremony as well as the ones watching it as spectators, says Fredrik Andersson.
The Campaign Celebrate the Game was a big part of the opening ceremony. Partille Cup wants to celebrate everyone, in and around handball, with the campaign – it’s a campaign for everyone’s wellbeing.
– It’s fun to see it became such a turnout. It’s like everything dropped. This year was nothing but a success. If that’s even enough to describe the feeling right now, says Fredrik Andersson.
The opening ceremony is the official start of Partille Cup, even though handball has been played during the day. According to the cup general, it’s a long-awaited occasion where the ceremony means more than it has done in other editions of the tournament.
– It’s this moment that we’ve been waiting for the last three years. It’s about us coming together again. Right now, it feels as the pandemic never was. Right now, it all feels as it should – again.
