Keeping Fair Play alive, on and off the court

– I’m proud to have this role at Partille World Cup, says safety and service host Peterson Bwogi. During the tournament, he and the other safety hosts work to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone at Heden.

Behind the matches, many volunteers help make the tournament run smoothly. One of them is Peterson Bwogi, who is a safety and service host this year. The safety hosts work closely with the tournament management team to make sure the spirit of Fair Play is present throughout Partille World Cup.

– I’ve been involved for the past three years, but this is my first year as a safety host. We work together with the tournament management team, and our goal is to make sure Fair Play is part of the whole tournament. Everyone should feel safe, staff, volunteers, players and spectators. No one should ever feel unsafe, says Peterson.

The safety hosts at Heden move between the playing courts throughout the day. They are on site to answer questions, create a feeling of safety and handle situations that may arise during the tournament.

– It’s not only the matches that matter. We walk around the courts and make sure everything is safe. Sometimes we need to speak to a coach, a player or someone in the crowd. Our job is to be there and help if needed, says Peterson.

The work is mainly about being visible and accessible. Through their presence, the safety hosts work in a preventative way and help create a safe environment where players, coaches, officials and visitors can focus on the matches.

– The best part of being a safety host is being able to help create a great environment. We do a lot for the tournament, and it feels good to contribute something important, he says.
