Crew Roles Become a Pathway into Working Life
– It is a very good introduction to working life, says Frida Hedman. For many young people, the involvement as an official during the Partille World Cup serves as a first step towards the job market and a valuable addition to their CV.
The lack of summer jobs makes it difficult for many young people to gain their first experience of working life. During the Partille World Cup, around 1,500 volunteers in the Gothenburg region take on roles as staff, where they receive financial compensation for their efforts and are responsible for various aspects of the tournament. At Katrinelundskolan, Ellen Nordh, 18, and Frida Hedman, 20, work in the cafeteria, where they help welcome participants and keep operations running during the tournament week.
The initiative is part of the Partille World Cup's sustainability concept,Celebrate the People.
Frida Hedman describes the role as an introduction to working life. She explains that the volunteers get to practice time management, teamwork, and responsibility for their tasks. According to her, there are many different roles within the tournament, which allows more people to find a position that suits them.
– You learn to manage your time, work in a team, and such. The Partille World Cup is very large, so there is room for everyone, says Frida Hedman.
For Ellen Nordh, it is not her first year volunteering at the Partille World Cup. After a positive experience last year, she chose to return. She describes the sense of community and the feeling of being part of a team as her main reasons for coming back.
– I love the camaraderie you get with your team right from the first day, says Ellen Nordh.
She believes that the volunteer role provides both experience and new contacts. During the week, the volunteers receive compensation for their engagement while developing skills and building credentials that may be valuable when applying for future jobs.
